Laser Hair Removal

What I Tell Every Client Who’s Curious About Laser Hair Removal

If you’ve been shaving, waxing, or plucking for years and wondering whether laser hair removal is actually worth it, you’re not alone — it’s one of the most common questions I get asked at Cosmed Beauty Clinic. So let’s skip the fluff and get into what actually matters.

It’s Not a One-and-Done Treatment

The biggest misconception I run into is that one session will leave you hair-free forever. It won’t, and honestly, if someone tells you it will, be skeptical. Hair grows in cycles — active, resting, and shedding — and laser only works on hair that’s in its active growth phase at the time of treatment. That’s why a course of sessions, spaced a few weeks apart, is what actually gets results. Most clients notice a real difference with the first treatment — a reduction of at least 30-40% of hair, and when it regrows, it comes in slow and fine.

Why Consistency Matters More Than the Laser Itself

I’ve had clients come in expecting the machine to do all the work. It helps, of course — but showing up for your sessions on schedule matters just as much. Skip too many appointments and you’re essentially resetting the clock on some of that hair’s growth cycle. If you’re going to commit to laser, commit to the calendar too.

Common Areas We Treat

Underarms and bikini line are by far the most requested combo I see walk through the door — probably because they’re the areas people are most tired of maintaining themselves. But we treat legs, arms, upper lip, and back just as often. Every area has a slightly different response time, so don’t be discouraged if your underarms clear up faster than, say, your legs.

Does It Hurt?

I get this one a lot. Most people describe it as a quick snap, like a rubber band against the skin — uncomfortable in the moment, but nothing that lingers. Sensitivity really does vary person to person and area to area, and we always adjust settings to what’s comfortable for you.

Who It’s Not Ideal For

Laser hair removal targets pigment in the hair follicle, which means it works best on darker, coarser hair. Very light blonde, red, or grey hair is harder to treat effectively — something worth knowing before you invest in a package. If that’s your situation, we can talk through it honestly during a consultation rather than promising results we can’t deliver.

My Honest Take

What I like about laser, compared to a lot of other treatments I offer, is that it’s genuinely low-maintenance once you’re done with the initial course. No more razors in your gym bag, no more waxing appointments to plan your month around and no more dealing with in-grown hair. It’s an investment of time upfront for a lot of time saved later.

If you’re local to Vaughan and thinking about it, the best next step is usually just coming in for a free consultation — no cost, no commitment. We’ll look at your skin and hair type together and figure out realistically what to expect, rather than guessing from a screen.
